Getting a job ready for the field
Support starts with the crop block, the weed pressure and the timing window. For onions, carrots, lettuce and brassicas, the best pass depends on weed stage, crop spacing and how clean the row structure is before the unit enters the field.
Our team checks access tracks, turning space, field length and irrigation layout so the tractor-drawn unit can work with less interruption. If the block is split across more than one farm, we can coordinate the movement plan and the operator schedule around those sites.
What our field checks cover
An arrival site check is useful when a grower wants the field inspected before the unit goes in. The operator and scheduling team look at row alignment, crop canopy, weed density and any wet patches that may affect travel or pass consistency.
- Crop stage and row structure
- Weed stage and visible pressure
- Access for tractor and support vehicle
- Field length, headlands and turning points
- Any block boundaries that need marking
Timing plans for row crops
Laser weeding works best when the timing plan matches the growth stage of the crop and the weed flush. Too early and the weed profile may be too uneven, too late and some weeds are harder to target cleanly around the crop plants.
Our crop timing plans are used to map the likely pass sequence for the season, especially where growers move between plantings in Philippi, Ceres, Grabouw or further afield. The aim is to keep the schedule practical for the field team and the growing cycle.
Operator cover and travel coordination
We supply trained operators with the unit, so the grower does not need to source separate field labour for the pass itself. The operator manages the machine in the row, while the scheduling lead handles route planning for blocks across the Cape, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State.
- Single farm visits or multi farm programmes
- Travel planning for distant blocks
- Season bookings for planned weed control
- Repeat pass planning where a second visit is needed
Reporting after the pass
After the field work, post pass reporting helps growers see what was covered and where attention may still be needed. The report can note the field sections treated, any missed corners, and whether a follow-up visit should be considered as the crop develops.
Laser weeding is herbicide-free and does not disturb the soil, which matters on lighter soils and in blocks where the row surface must stay intact. That also makes the records useful when several crews are working the same farm at different stages.
Support lines by region
Our base is in Philippi, Cape Town, and support extends to growers working in Ceres, Grabouw, Tzaneen, Bela-Bela, Nelspruit, Howick and Bethlehem. Field conditions differ from one district to the next, so the support note for each site has to reflect local weather, crop timing and access realities.
If you are arranging a trial strip run, a season booking or a grower consultation, our contact form is the way to send the field details. It keeps the crop, block and timing notes together for the team handling the job.
